FOOTBALL: Bulldogs Have Some Playmakers At Receiver

BIG RAPIDS - On a hot, muggy Sunday afternoon, Ferris State University nonetheless was back out on the turf at Top Taggart Field continuing preparation for the start of the 2009 season.

Coming off last season, the offense is expected to hit the ground running with valuable experienced earned in 2008.

As part of that experience, the Bulldogs have a set of guys who will be on the receiving end of passes looking solid early this preseason.

Ferris has a nice combination of long and athletic receivers who can make plays in the air (with guys like Chris Wilson, Seth Hubbard, Keenan Bowman and others) and smaller, speedy-type guys who should stretch the field a little more (with players like Mike Ryan (pictured), Damien Miller, a talented freshman Alan Freeman and others). It will be exciting to see the other talented new guys that head coach Jeff Pierce is so high on.

Offensive coordinator Matt McCarthy no doubt has high expectations (VERY HIGH) and will be looking for ways to get the football into the hands of those playmakers ... early and often. McCarthy has been tough on his boys because he knows the challenge ahead for this offensive unit and he also sees its capability.

With veteran quarterbacks like Tom Schneider and Kyle Parrish, the Bulldogs have the experience to be ahead of the game come late August when Tiffin rolls into town for the season opener on Aug. 29.
