FOOTBALL: Midland Daily News Highlights Area Student-Athletes Playing For Ferris

BIG RAPIDS - The Midland Daily News highlighted Midland-area players looking to make an impact as members off Ferris State University's football team in 2009. The Daily News, specifically, mentioned linebacker Nick Butler (pictured) and kicker Caitlin Porter, Midland High School graduates. As there will be spots up for grabs, it is possible Butler, Porter and others will have great opportunities to prove themselves in the crimson and gold this season.

From the Midland Daily News:
Led by Ferris State's Nick Butler, Midland-area football players are beginning to make their mark in the tough GLIAC conference.

"He is such an impressive young person," Bulldogs' coach Jeff Pierce said of Butler, a Midland High graduate. "He's been waiting in the wings to get his opportunity to play. We're counting on big things from him this year."

"He's been a great leader in our football program," said Pierce. "He's a tremendous role model for our younger players."

Another Midland High graduate, Catlin Porter, is attempting to crack the Bulldogs' line-up as a kicker. With the departure of All-GLIAC selection Jim Yates, Ferris finds itself having to fill all three kicking positions.
The Bulldogs are rolling into town this week and the first practice is Friday morning.
