SOCCER: Ferris Battles Lewis To A 2-2 Tie In Home Opener

BIG RAPIDS - Ferris State University began the home portion of its 2009 women's soccer season with a 2-2 double-overtime tie against regional rival Lewis.

After falling to 0-2 following a two-contest trip to Minnesota (with losses to national power Minnesota State-Mankato and Winona State) Ferris returned to Big Rapids and battled the Flyers (1-1-1) to a 2-2 draw to move to 0-2-1 on the season.

Ferris fell behind 2-0 on the scoreboard, but rallied with the final two goals as sophomore forward Bri Borgman (pictured top) scored on a penalty kick at 64:01 and freshman midfielder Sam Zerilli (pictured bottom) scored on a header, assisted by senior forward Megan McCabe, at 67:28.

Great comeback by the Bulldogs who showed a lot of fight to bounce back from a two-goal deficit to salvage a tie against a regional opponent.
On Friday, the Bulldogs are back in action as they travel to Allendale to face Quincy (Ill.) in a neutral-site game, one that will see Ferris take on yet another regional opponent, being played at Grand Valley State University. That contest is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.
