Both teams have struggled in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play this weekend. Indeed, both teams enter this game winless in league play and eager to get that first league victory of the middle-aged season. Lets face it, when these two teams hit the turf at Top Taggart Field on Saturday afternoon, Indianapolis will be eager to spoil Ferris' homecoming and the Bulldogs will be glad to be back in its home stadium feeling good about its chances to take a victory.
This is a game the Bulldogs do not want to let slip through their fingers. The sting of last week's loss to Michigan Tech, in the Battle at the Ballpark, has to be put out of mind and Ferris has to shift its focus to the future. It's cliche, but the Bulldogs have to take this thing one game at a time and the next opponent is visiting Indianapolis.
Both teams are 1-5 overall and 0-5 in the GLIAC this season. Based on the records alone, both teams are probably licking their chops.
If history is any indication, this should be a tightly-contested battle. Last year, Kyle Parrish (who had an unbelievable passing day with 404 yards through the air and four touchdowns) connected with Seth Hubbard on a 44-yard TD pass with 18 seconds to go as the Bulldogs escaped with a 31-24 win in Indiana. It was a great night for Parrish (pictured). Ferris could sure use another big-time effort through the air to help get the running game going.
Several times this season, head coach Jeff Pierce's Bulldogs have been victimized by slow starts. That is a negative trend Ferris must reverse to be successful against the Greyhounds.
This is an opportunity for the Bulldogs to give a nice win to the alums who will be back on campus at at Top Taggart Field this weekend. You know those guys want to see a win.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. from Top Taggart Field in Big Rapids as part of the weekend's homecoming festivities.
