The visiting Greyhounds grabbed a 20-0 lead at halftime and led 34-0 before Ferris added a fourth-quarter touchdown in a 34-7 Indianapolis victory in Big Rapids. The game was, to some extent, billed as a battle of teams winless in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play and eager for that first scratch in the win column. Only one team could win and the visiting Greyhounds came in determined to be that team and left Top Taggart Field satisfied.
"Well obviously we're very disappointed," Ferris head coach Jeff Pierce said. "We couldn't get into a flow offensively and put our defense in a position where they really had to battle to keep us in the game. But, we can't turn the ball over and make the mistakes we've been making. We have to play more consistently offensively.
Ferris had just 10 first downs in the game and a number of them came late in the contest. Time of possession was a statistic dominated by the Greyhounds who possessed the football for 37:28 to 22:32 for the Bulldogs. Indy was able to do that by running the football well to the tune of 220 yards. In all, the visitors had 326 yards of total offense to 201 for Ferris.
Indy's star of the game was running back Patrick Bourne who had 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Through the air, Rob Doyle completed 18-of-28 passes for 106 yards and two touchdowns. Mar'Quone Edmonds had three receptions for 22 yards and two touchdowns.
For the Bulldogs, offense was tough to come by. Kyle Parrish completed 15-of-30 passes for 159 yards and one touchdown with two interceptions. Mike Ryan had three catches for 65 yards, Chris Wilson had three for 33 yards and a touchdown, Tyler Thomas had three grabs for 20 yards and Tom Schneider had three receptions for 17 yards.
"In the locker room we're pretty well together and we haven't been down on each other which can be hard since we're 1-6," Wilson said. "We came together as a team and before the game we said 'family' out there. We just gotta continue to work and try to put it all together."
Defensively, Santino Favot had a solid day as he finished with five solo tackles, six assists, a total of 11 tackles to go along with one interception and a fumble recovery.
"We're just trying to keep everybody positive and we're still battling out there," Favot said. "That's all we can do is battle. We just stay positive and try and correct all of our mistakes."
Ferris falls to 1-6 overall and 0-6 in the GLIAC as it travels to Detroit next weekend to take on Wayne State University.
