The NCAA Division II Super Regional 3 Rankings are out as of Oct. 5 and there are just a few minor surprises.
So far, it appears the GLIAC is well represented in these regional rankings with Grand Valley State University ranked second in the region (even though they are first in the nation). Saginaw Valley State University is sixth, Wayne State University (Mich.) is seventh, University of Findlay is eighth and Northwood University checks in at ninth in this poll.
But, it's too early to draw any definitive conclusions as a lot of football still has to be played before these rankings will be chiseled into stone. But, these rankings do provide a starting point and an opportunity for the debate to begin.
Some people are probably a bit surprised that Northern Michigan is not present in these rankings in spite of a couple of quality wins (most recently on the road over Saginaw Valley). Be patient, if the Wildcats continue to perform well (particularly away from the Superior Dome), they should find themselves in the top 10.
NMU still has Wayne, Hillsdale College, Findlay and Grand Valley. The test is ahead.
