Congratulations go out to head coach Keith Otterbein (pictured above) and offensive coordinator Barry Fagan (Otterbein is a former Ferris State University head coach and Fagan is a former Ferris offensive coordinator) for working to engineer this great upset.

Face it, more than a few of us (your's truly included) thought Grand Valley might never again lose a GLIAC football game. That thought, however, was shattered as part of a pretty Saturday afternoon at Muddy Waters Stadium (one of the toughest settings in the GLIAC for visiting opponents, but also one of the prettiest settings) in Hillsdale.
As Jason DaDay and I called the Ferris-Indianapolis football game on local radio, this was one of the games we kept our eye on as we figured the Lakers were sure to
be challenged by a good Hillsdale squad that plays well at home (as most teams do). My only regret is that I was not able to see that football game as it happened (in person or, at the very least, on the Internet).

On this day, it was Hillsdale College that found a way to win this big game and spring the upset few of us thought was possible.
But, don't think Grand Valley is about to just fade to black.
The Lakers, however, will bounce back from Saturday afternoon's stunning upset and once again become the strongest force in the GLIAC. But, it will be interesting to see how GVSU responds in the weeks to come as more opponents may feel an increased sense of confidence (and a diminished sense of awe) as they challenge the premier football program in the GLIAC.
