The Golden Hawks got off to a hot start with two goals in the first period and rode a great performance between the pipes from netminder Ryan Daniels, who made 55 saves against the Bulldogs en route to a 3-1 win.
"I was real happy with a lot of things I saw," Ferris head coach Bob Daniels said. "I held out one of our top lines tonight with (Casey) Haines, (Aaron) Lewicki and (Mike) Embach. That is at least our first or second line. I really wanted to watch the rest of the guys a little more and we rotated the goalies for each period. The things we worked on I really was happy with how we looked."
Wilfred Laurier's first goal came at 3:46 of the opening period as defenseman Chad Kennedy scored on a deep shot to grab the 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Ryan Bellows.
Ten minutes later, at 13:46, forward Jean-Michael Rizk (assisted by Jason Bergeron) beat Ferris goaltender Jordan Barber with a shot that banged in off the pipes to give the visitors a two-goal edge on the scoreboard.
In the second period, Ferris fell behind 3-0 as Ryan Bellows scored off an assist from Jeff Borrows and Jordan Bonneville at 8:38.
The Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard at 11:33 of the second period as Chad Billins scored (assisted by Zach Redmond) to bring the Ewigleben Ice Arena crowd to its feet.
The top star of the game had to be Ryan Daniels who was superb in goal for the Wilfred Laurier and probably stole a couple of potential goals away from the Bulldogs that might have changed the complexion of the exhibition contest.
But, it was just an exhibition and Daniels held out one of his top lines. Also, Ferris played all three goalies as Barber, Taylor Nelson and Pat Nagle all had time between the pipes.
Ferris is back on the ice for real when it travels to Canisius (Oct. 9-10) for a two-game non-conference series. The puck drops both nights at 7:05 p.m.
