MEN'S BASKETBALL: Justin Keenan Earns Preseason All-America Honors From The Sporting News

BIG RAPIDS - Believe it or not folks, the 2009-10 college basketball season will be here before you know it.

Ferris State University is planning to send to the hardwood what it hopes will be a competitive men's basketball team that might contend for a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. To do so, however, the Bulldogs will need a big season from its big man inside: 6-foot-6 Grand Rapids native Justin Keenan, a junior center. And, Keenan has opened the eyes of some of the experts who cover Division II basketball as he was named a preseason honorable mention All-American by The Sporting News.

Keenan was one of just two GLIAC players featured by The Sporting News. Also honored was Marcus Parker, who played the point for the University of Findlay, the defending NCAA Division II National Champions.

Keenan was the leading scorer in the GLIAC averaging 20.2 points. He was second in the league in offensive rebounds (3.4 per game) and fourth in rebounding overall (7.3).
