DAYTON, Ohio - Ferris State University played a competitive game from start to finish and gave the University of Dayton, a nationally-ranked Division I team, a good battle Tuesday evening.
The Flyers survived a scrappy effort from the undersized Bulldogs who competed hard against Dayton in an 88-73 loss in University of Dayton Arena, a venue that has been host to
a lot of big-time games over the years. A big part of Ferris' scrappy effort was a strong performance from Justin Keenan (pictured top), who led all scorers in the game with 25 points to go along with eight rebounds as he battled much taller players in the paint. Austin Randel (pictured bottom) also reached double digits in the scoring column with 22 points (including 3-of-7 from outside the 3-point arc) and Darien Gay added 10 to help fuel Ferris' offensive attack.

split a pair of free throw attempts. It was nice to see the Bulldogs compete at the defensive end of the floor and force Dayton into 23 turnovers. Ferris mixed up its defense, but used quick feet and active hands to create turnovers that led to scoring opportunities.
While the Bulldogs did force 23 turnovers they also gave it away an identical 23 times Tuesday evening in Ohio.

Ferris State looks to have a very good team. Good luck the rest of the way this year.
ReplyDeleteDayton did, however, play without their two best players. Junior Chris Wright is the leader of the team and will more than likely be in the NBA next year, and Marcus Johnson is an all A-10 player and by far their best 2-guard.
Very true. I am expecting good things from Dayton and I think that is a team a lot of people will keep their eyes on. It was a good test for Ferris to go up against this kind of team to work on some things it needs to work on and get some experience. I don't think the end result is as important to the teams as much as seeing where they are right now and where they're headed in the future.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Ferris may have lost its starting point guard to an injury in the exhibition. So, that was a definite drawback.
Yes, best of luck to Dayton as well.
I will be sure to check Dayton out again when it is at full strength.
Hope the point guard injury isn't too serious!
