Ferris State University women's basketball player Tricia Principe, a native of Kalamazoo who prepped at Mattawan High School, is a perfect example of growth as a basketball player. Principe came in with a reputation as a player with a relentless work ethic and a never-ending desire to win. Those attributes turned the 5-foot-9 guard into a go-to offensive player for the Bulldogs during her sophomore campaign as she averaged 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds.
But, her most impressive numbers might have been at the free throw line where she knocked them down at a 92.5 percent clip (86-of-93) to rank best in the nation (NCAA Division II) during the 2009-10 season.
Division II could hardly ask for a better representative to be its top free throw shooter than Ferris' Tricia Principe.
