WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Barnes Resigns As Michigan Tech Coach To Be Wisconsin Assistant

Big news in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is the announcement that John Barnes has stepped down as head women's basketball coach at Michigan Tech University, a perennial Division II national power to become an assistant women's basketball coach at the University of Wisconsin.

It had to be a tough move for Barnes who has done such a great job building MTU into a high-level national powerhouse.

Barnes led the Huskies to a 155-56 record in seven seasons, winning three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division titles. He was named GLIAC coach of the year three times, and the Huskies reached the NCAA Division II tournament five times during his tenure, with Elite Eight appearances in 2009-10."It was a very difficult decision to leave, but this was an opportunity I couldn't pass up," Barnes said.
