The preseason poll for the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference's 2010 football season has been released and there are few major surprises.

Ferris State University was picked to finish 11th in the conference as it garnered 48 points coming off a 1-10 record during the 2009 campaign.

Grand Valley State predictably was selected first with 13 first-place votes and 169 points. Hillsdale and Saginaw Valley State each were second with 148 points. The Chargers did get the remaining first-place vote added to its credit. This presents an early challenge to Ferris which opens the season at Hillsdale, Sept. 3, and then opens at home, Sept. 11, against SVSU.

Rounding out the top five in the preseason coaches poll: Ashland was fourth with 113 points and Northwood placed fifth with 111 points.

Ashland, Northwood, Findlay and Northern Michigan might be somewhat interchangeable in their slots (with maybe some others in that mix as well). Michigan Tech, with a lot of players back who missed much or all of last season with injury, seems to be a little low in this poll at ninth.
