Ferris State quarterback Tom Schneider will once again need to be a key player in the Bulldogs' offensive efforts this weekend against Tiffin University in Big Rapids at Top Taggart Field. (FSU Photographic Services)With Tiffin University coming to town, some might be tempted to think this is a win that is in the bag, but now is not the time for Ferris State University to take anything for granted.
We know the visiting Dragons are just 1-2 and yet winless in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but that guarantees nothing.
Ferris (2-1 overall, 2-0 GLIAC) knows it has a lot to work on this week after nearly blowing a 28-6 lead before holding on to knock off Ohio Dominican in Columbus, Ohio last weekend.
The Bulldogs have work to do on special teams, the offense can continue to get sharper and the defense must continue to mature and grow.
After the win over Ohio Dominican, I had a chance to talk to receiver Mike Ryan and defensive coordinator and assistant head coach Duane Wilson. Both Ryan and Wilson talked about being glad to get a win on the road but wanting a higher and more consistent level of play going into future games.
Both men were right on the money. Ferris, in the end, escaped Ohio Dominican with a win in a game that should not have been so close.
