MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Chute Runs Hard, Takes Third For Ferris At Ray Helsing Invitational

As a sophomore, Ryan Chute has already sent a nice message with a solid effort on Friday at the Ray Helsing Invitational in Big Rapids at Ferris State University's Katke Golf Course.

Chute, a Ferris cross country runner, earned a third-place finish in the 8K race as he timed 26:56.32 in a field of 38 runners (the race was won by Northwood's Michael Beard in 26:34.40).

"(Ferris head coach Steve Picucci) started us a little later this year so this was actually my highest mileage so I was a little tired," Chute said. "We have to go all the way to Nov. 20, so it's not too bad and we're getting into it."

Chute was one of four runners to place in the top seven, representing Ferris, in Friday's invitational.

Sophomore David Silversmith finished fourth in a time of 27:06.51 while fellow second-year runner Alex Bladecki was sixth in 27:27.77. Andrew Campbell, yet another sophomore, was seventh in 27:36.76.

Redshirt freshman William King turned in a 10th-place finish for the Bulldogs as he timed in at 27:53.84 while sophomore Michael Schulte was 11th at 27:56.27.
