Ferris State University knows it will have its hands full on the gridiron this afternoon in Big Rapids as it hosts Michigan Tech University in the Bulldogs' final home game of the season at Top Taggart Field.
One reason the Bulldogs will have their hands full is MTU running back Phil Milbrath, who is the reigning GLIAC Player of the Week and the D2football.com National Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last weekend's 20-17 upset victory over top-ranked Grand Valley State University in Houghton.
The 5-9, 200-pound Milbrath, a hard-nosed running back with game-breaking potential, rushed for a career-best 293 yards on 33 rushes and had two touchdowns.
Ferris will need to be tough on the line of scrimmage led by ends Jordan Morgan and Brad Iskow and tackles Muneer Bawayeh and Jacob Moreno. The linebackers, led by Matt Ryan, Tayo Moss, Mike Elias, and others, will need to fill in those wholes and be mobile to help contain that running game led by Milbrath.
What makes Tech tough, however, is the Huskies have a strong passing game led by quarterback Steve Short. MTU has solid receivers, a good tight end and an excellent offensive line.
The Bulldogs and Huskies kickoff this afternoon at Top Taggart Field beginning at 2 p.m.
