FOOTBALL: A Winning Season Now Is Paramount

Having let another one slip away, in the form of a 28-16 loss this past weekend to Michigan Tech University, Ferris State University has one shot at a winning season.

A 6-5 record is definitely not what Ferris had in mind about four weeks ago. But, 6-5 will feel a lot better than 5-6 if the Bulldogs of head coach Jeff Pierce can muster a victory over Northwood University on Saturday afternoon in Midland.

A season that began with such promise, with the Bulldogs finding success in the tough games when they needed to, is coming to an end with the team hungry for a victory to end the 2010 campaign on a positive note.

During the first half of the 2010 season, Ferris competed with great confidence on both sides of the football (offensively and defensively).

The team continues to defeat, but the close games that the Bulldogs won earlier in the fall have turned into heartbreaking losses (Northern Michigan, Indianapolis and Michigan Tech) during the second half of the season.

With one game to go, Ferris needs to pull it together and clean up those little mistakes to get a win over Northwood.

It won't be easy this Saturday at noon in Hantz Stadium on the NU campus. Like NMU, Indy and Tech, the Timberwolves are a solid team that will be ready to play.
