Ferris State University's Scott Wietecha (3) skates with the puck during action over this past weekend against top-ranked Miami University in Ewigleben Ice Arena in Big Rapids. (Ed Hyde, FSU Photographic Services)Ferris State University has had its share of successes against Miami University, the top-ranked team in the nation, during the last couple of seasons.
As a result, the Bulldogs of head coach Bob Daniels have earned a degree of respect from the RedHawks that is mutual. As part of its history of good and solid competition with Miami, Ferris skated to a 3-2 win and a 1-1 tie (with a Saturday shootout victory).
Thanks to its productive weekend, Ferris earned five of a possible six points against the RedHawks in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association race where points are so precious. Ferris has improved to 5-3-2 overall and 2-2-2-2 in the CCHA as it has survived a tough early portion of its 2010-11 schedule.
The superb play of goaltender Pat Nagle and the leadership and skill of star defenseman and team leader Zach Redmond, among many other Bulldogs who have performed at a high level this season, has elevated Ferris to a team that should be in line for a national ranking in the not-too-distant future.
This past weekend was a great one and an important one for the Bulldog hockey team as it prepares now for a road trip to Sault Ste. Marie to take on Lake Superior State University (Nov. 12,-13) in a two-game CCHA series.
