The host Lakers swept the 20th-ranked Bulldogs in a Central Collegiate Hockey Association series in Taffy Abel Ice Arena. Lake State won the opener 1-0, on Friday, and then bounced back to score a 4-0 victory in the series finale on Saturday in Sault Ste. Marie.
It's a tough series for the Bulldogs who were just hitting the spotlight of the country with a national ranking. On the other hand, this series also is a reminder that the CCHA championship race is a long one that (as the old saying goes) is a marathon rather than a sprint.
The Bulldogs of head coach Bob Daniels will probably lose that national ranking, but don't sweat it too much. There will be more than enough opportunities for Ferris to get back on its skates and back to those winning ways.
In fact, this weekend is the first of such opportunities with Western Michigan University (nationally ranked) coming to Big Rapids featuring the return of former Ferris goaltender and assistant coach Jeff Blashill, the first-year head coach of the Broncos. Both games begin at 7:05 p.m. (Friday and Saturday).
