The Pumas were ranked 19th in the nation in the NABC Division II Coaches Preseason Poll and coming off a banner season during which they finished 20-12 and advanced to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight.
That's not too shabby at all for a team that will present a formidable challenge for the Bulldogs Monday evening in Michigan.
This season, St. Joseph's has three starters and 12 letterwinners in all back. The returners for the Pumas are highlighted by strong guard play in the form of junior Dayvon Sloan, who averaged 11.5 points last season; Phillip Collins, who averaged 10.2 points and 4.8 rebounds; and Michael Horton, who averaged 7.1 points and four assists.
