VOLLEYBALL: Ferris Earns Win In First Round Of GLIAC Tournament

The Ferris State University volleyball team got its post-season run off to a nice start on Thursday evening in Detroit.

The Bulldogs, seeded fifth in the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament, needed four sets to knock off host and fourth-seeded Wayne State University in a match played at the Matthaei Center in Detroit.

Ferris won its seventh consecutive match by scores of 25-22, 22-25, 25-19, 25-23 over the host Warriors in a tournament quarterfinals contest. Ashley Huntey had 13 kills while Arielle Goodson tallied 12 in the victory.

Thanks to the win, Ferris now moves on to face top-seeded Hillsdale on Saturday (Nov. 13) in GLIAC Tournament semifinals.

The match is set to begin at 5 p.m. in the Chargers' Jesse Philips Arena in Hillsdale.

The other semifinal-round match pits No. 2 seed Northern Michigan University taking on No. 3 Grand Valley State University at 7:30 p.m. The championship match will be held this Sunday (Nov. 14) starting at 4 p.m.
