WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY: Team Earns Bid To Nationals; Muir Wins Regional

Ferris State University knew it would need a banner effort to earn a trip to the NCAA Division II National Championships, for the third straight season, and that is precisely what the team got over the weekend in Louisville, Ky.

Ferris totaled 79 points to place second in the region behind team NCAA Division II Midwest Region champion Grand Valley State University, which totaled 26 points on Saturday (Nov. 20).

The FSU men's cross country squad concluded its 2010 season with a 12th-place finish (324 points). The Grand Valley men won the regional with 21 points.

The top individual finisher in the regional was Ferris standout senior Tina Muir (pictured), who placed first for the second consecutive year. Muir, running strong for the Bulldogs, finished in 21:05.96 on the 6K course at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park and finished nearly five seconds ahead of second-place finisher Katherine McCarthy of Grand Valley.
