HOCKEY: Bulldogs And Golden Gophers Settle For 1-1 Tie

Our appetites hungered for a shootout - one we thought was called for by rule.

We were denied in a bizarre fashion only to have to wait nearly a half an hour to essentially find out the shootout was called off because University of Minnesota head coach Don Lucia didn't feel like there was enough on the line to justify a shootout.

It's his tournament and, in essence, his choice. To be fair, he is hardly the only person in college hockey to hold a dislike of shootouts.

Oh well. As a result, the Bulldogs and the the Golden Gophers settled for a 2-2 tie (Jan. 1) in the Mariucci Classic Saturday night in Minneapolis.

The Bulldogs played a good game as they used goals from Matthew Kirzinger and Brett Wysopal along with a solid performance between the pipes from goaltender Pat Nagle (pictured above who was aided by superb defense in front of the net) to hang tough with the Golden Gophers.
