A historic achievement occurred on the basketball hardwood for Ferris State University as the men's squad earned the 1,000th win in program history with a 70-68 triumph over Saginaw Valley State University on Saturday in Jim Wink Arena.
Ferris is planning to celebrate the program's 1,000 wins in a special celebration held in conjunction with the regular-season finale versus GVSU on Feb. 26 at Wink Arena.
"There's not many schools that have as proud of a tradition as Ferris State and it's a culmination of the great players and coaches who have been here in the past," Ferris head coach Bill Sall said after his team reached the mark against the Cardinals. "It's a proud tradition and we certainly are very humbled to be the team that got the 1,000th win."
This is an amazing achievement just for me to think about when I think of the great players I've seen during the 17 or so years I've been watching Ferris basketball. I've had an opportunity to watch some of the great ones like Dannie Hayes, Ty Miller, Rafael Peterson, Zarie Phillips, Day Day Smith, Adam Anderson, Justin Keenan, Dennis Springs, Carlton Epps and so many others.
Those names are just from the era I experienced. Imagine all of the great names that came before that distinguished group.
Ferris has a rich and storied tradition of men's college basketball. Lets hope as many people as possible will return to campus to join in the celebration of the tradition they helped create.
