HOCKEY: Wietecha To Take His Tough Defense To East Coast Hockey League

Scott Wietecha, who just finished his college hockey playing career at Ferris State University, signed a standard player contract with the Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals of the East Coast Hockey League last Friday (March 18).

Wietecha, the 6-foot-2 and 208-pound former Bulldog defenseman from Wolverine Lake, is set to compete for Elmira, an affiliate for both the National Hockey League's Anaheim Ducks and Ottawa Senators. Throughout his career at Ferris, Wietecha has been a quiet cornerstone of the success of the Bulldogs' defense.

Wietecha, who is tough as nails, totaled 14 points on two goals with a career season-best 12 assists in 39 outings during the 2010-11 season. He finished with a plus-five efficiency rating to go along with a career season-high 31 blocked shots and one power-play goal.
