MIDLAND - Ferris State University's softball season came to an end on day two of the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Bulldogs tried valiantly to fight their way out of the loser's bracket, but fell short as a 3-0 Saturday loss to Ashland University officially ended their season at 24-23 overall.

Ferris began its day with a 5-2 win over Northwood University and followed that up with a 4-2 victory over Wayne State University to set the stage for a rematch with Ashland.

The Eagles, however, were as tougher as ever and ended Ferris' season with a 3-0 victory in the day's finale in Midland at NU's Fisher Stadium.

Ferris showed a lot of character fighting back out of the loser's bracket and nearly fighting its way all the way through a nearly improbable three-game sweep on Saturday afternoon.

It was a valiant effort on the team's part.
