MIDLAND - Ferris State University split its first two games at the 2011 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament in Midland, Mich.
Ferris was in the bracket played at Northwood University. The Bulldogs opened tournament play with a 2-1 win over Saginaw Valley State University, but closed it with a 5-4 loss to Ashland University.
In game one, against the Cardinals, first baseman Chelsea Morris was 2-for-3 with an RBI. right fielder Colleen Roney had two hits. Roney and third baseman Makenzi Peterson each scored runs for Ferris.
Dana Bowler was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs as she threw seven innings, allowed three hits, one run (earned), two walks and struck out four.
In game two of the day, against Ashland, Peterson was 1-for-2 with a double and two runs batted in for the Bulldogs. Second baseman Lainee Clay was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Morris was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Bowler threw six innings, allowed six hits, surrendered five runs (three earned), walked three and struck out two as her record dipped to 15-10.
